Rules of HIPF International Piano Competition

Emerging Artist (ages 8-12) and New Artist categories (ages 13-18)

-The competition is open to any nationality. 
-Participants must play two pieces written by a Latin American Composer. One of the pieces must be selected from the repertoire list (click here to go to Scores for Competition). The second piece is left up to the participant’s criteria.
-For the mandatory piece, participants from the Emerging Artist Category may chose from their own category, New or Young Artist category. Participants of the New category may chose a piece from their own category or Young category. Participants of the Young Artist category must not chose from the Emerging Artist category. 
-Participants must play one piece from the standard classical repertoire. The selection of the musical work is left up to the performer’s criteria.
-The performance time is 3 to 10 minutes per performer.
-Participants are free to play by memory or with the music.
-The jury’s decision regarding the results of the competition is final.
-Participants must arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the time of their performance.
-Participants must be present at the opening ceremony and concert, on June 8, to determine the order of participation. The competitors will pick a number (from a table with all the numbers facing down) to establish the order of participation.    
-The deadline to enter the competition is May the 16th by midnight. Please, read carefully the entry form to know what material to send by email before the deadline.  
-Spots to participate in the competition are limited.
-Participants must pay an entry fee of $85 by Zelle. Pay using the email  houstonipianof@outlook.com

-Participants must complete the entry form (click here to download form) and email it to houstonipianof@outlook.com
-Participants must send a copy of the pieces they will perform to houstonipianof@outlook.com
-Please, make sure you send proof of payment, copy of pieces and entry form in the same email.

 Young Artist Category (ages 19-25)

-The competition is open to any nationality.
-Participants must play two pieces written by a Latin American Composer. One of the pieces must be selected from the repertoire list (click here to go to Scores for Competition). The second piece is left up to the participant’s criteria. Participants of this category must not chose pieces from the Emerging or New Artist category. 
-Participants must play two pieces from the standard classical repertoire. The selection of the musical works is left up to the performer's criteria.
The performance time of the Young Professional is 7to 15 minutes per performer.
-Participants are free to play by memory or with the music.
-The jury’s decision regarding the results of the competition is final.
-Participants must arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the time of their performance
-Participants must be present at

All Categories


-The competition is open to any nationality.
-Participants  (All Categories Included) must improvise
between 1 to 5 minutes minutes on a theme given to the competitor right before the performance.
-Performers are free to improvise on any style. 
-The jury’s decision regarding the results of the competition is final.
-Participants must arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the time of their performance.
-The deadline to enter the com
petition is April the first by midnight. Please, read carefully the entry form to know what material to send by email before the deadline.  
-Spots to participate in the competition are limited.
-Participants must pay an entry fee of $65 by Zelle. Pay using the email houstonipianof@outlook.com

The festival does not cover any travel expenses. The competitors will be in charge of their own expenses during the competition.

The competitors’ performances are open to the public.
